SEX IN THE CITY - THE MOVIE

TV’s female version of the fantastic four are back, this time on the big screen.  Is it any good?  Women seem to think so.  Honestly, I’m not the right guy for the job in reviewing this one (key word: ‘guy’), but I can say that Kiss FM’s Denai Johnson loved it, terming it “like a big, happy reunion”.  So there.

RATING:   Never before has something like this depended so much on gender.

YOU DON'T MESS WITH THE ZOHAN

Adam Sandler stars as an Israeli commando who fakes his own death so he can follow his dream of becoming a New York hairstylist.  Sounds dumb?  Sure, but then, that’s pretty much a standard for Sandler comedies.  This one, unfortunately, runs out of a lot of steam much too early on.

RATING:  It’s rather cool, and not in a good way.

KUNG FU PANDA

Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan and Seth Rogen are just some of the stars who lend their famous pipes to this animated yarn about a slacker bear who becomes ‘the chosen one’ and must save a village from a dangerous snow leopard.  Not a brilliant piece of work, but so much fun, it’s overly bear-able for all ages.

RATING:  Hot fuzz.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL

Nineteen years after he supposedly rode off into the sunset, Harrison Ford’s daring hero is back – older, cranky and a little creaky – but he still has the magic.  This long awaited adventure is at its best when the action is non-stop, with layer after layer of fun-filled pitfalls.  Where it loses gas is on the home stretch where it gets…well….weird.  Still, how do you dislike an Indiana Jones film?

RATING:  Still heat under that dusty Fedora.

THE STRANGERS

/features/movie-reviews/movie-strangers-150x210.jpg ‘THE STRANGERS'

A young couple alone in a cabin on the edge of the woods are terrorized in the wee hours by three mysterious masked individuals.  The set-up, although cliché, sounds creepy and this film pretty much delivers.  Not a lot of gore here, just relentless suspense.  It’s a simple, surprisingly effective fright flick.

RATING:  Chilling enough to be a hot one.
